Established in 2014, Punch4Pounds KIDS is a nontraditional leadership & deterrence program, that utilizes the art of Boxing, to develop the “whole child”; focusing on healthy thinking & favorable decision social & emotional well-being compounded by an educational & athletic component. Since the beginning in High Point, NC at the Macedonia Family Resource Center, we’ve continued to progress servicing youth throughout the county. As a Guilford County School and Community In Schools service provider, Motivational Youth Speaker and Community Advocate & Organizer, the mission remains to engage, expose, educate & empower at-risk/high-risk youth of Guilford County.
Meet The Team
Steven Matthews, Founder
Steven Matthews, is a Greensboro native, whom served in 2003’s Iraqi Endure Freedom War as a United States Army Chemical Operations Combat Veteran (2001-2004); a Welterweight professional boxer (5-1);Proud father of 5; and Founder of Punch4Pounds KIDS. Matthew’s philosophy of boxing is that although the sport is a recreational activity with several health and fitness benefits, there are numerous psychological rewards beneficial to our youth of today. Specifically, Matthews believes Boxing is an untraditional way to deter negative thinking and action; and a way to elicit character development and leadership.
Remy Epps, M.A., Program Admin
Remy Epps is a Criminologist and Forensic Psychologist Ph.D Student. She holds a BS degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement and a Masters Degree in Sociology/Criminology. Ms. Epps has worked in a variety of positions that include: Program Coordinator, Behavior Specialist/Liaison for Transitioning Children, Event Coordinator, and Teacher. Her experience as an instructor, curriculum developer, and consultant to community youth programs,helping young people understand issues of race, ethnicity, gender, leadership development, and expose Urban Youth to non-traditional sports, comes as a unique opportunity to Punch4Pounds KIDS participants.
Donte Donnell, M.S Healthy Thinking Coach
Dontae Donnell is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist-A, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional among many more certifications. His first experience with Mental Health started with past career in education where he worked with students with disabilities and students with diagnosed mental health issues. Having a passion to work with youth he has worked in the community providing counseling to at-risk youth through outpatient and intensive in-home care.
